June 2026 Update: Building the Bowl
Arena Bowl Begins to Take Shape
One of the most exciting transformations inside the Kalamazoo Event Center is underway as the main arena bowl begins to take shape.
As precast risers continue to be installed throughout the arena, the future seating bowl is becoming visible for the first time. What was once a collection of structural steel and construction drawings is now evolving into a space where thousands of fans will gather to cheer on Western Michigan University Men's and Women's Basketball, WMU Hockey, Kalamazoo Wings hockey, attend concerts, and create lasting memories for years to come.
The installation of these precast risers establishes the framework for the arena's seating areas and provides one of the clearest visual indicators yet of the venue's scale and design. With each section added, the vision for the fan experience becomes more tangible, offering a glimpse into the energy and atmosphere that will one day fill the building.
Bowl precast riser detailing is on track for completion later this summer, marking another significant milestone in the construction process. As work continues across the facility, the arena is steadily transitioning from a construction site into a destination built to serve Kalamazoo and Southwest Michigan for generations to come.
