May 2026 Update: A Peek into the Vision Behind the Exterior

As the Kalamazoo Event Center continues to rise in downtown Kalamazoo, more of the vision behind the building is starting to come to life.

Designed in partnership with ROSSETTI and TowerPinkster, the venue was built to reflect the energy, character, and history of Kalamazoo. Rather than feeling like one massive structure, each side of the building intentionally brings its own personality and connection to the community.

Inspired by the textures and materials found throughout downtown Kalamazoo and the historic pedestrian mall, the main arena exterior features large transparent elements that help showcase the energy happening inside the venue.

On the basketball practice court corner, warm wood-inspired details reflect movement, momentum, and the excitement of game day.

Across the practice ice rink, bold geometric forms paired with glass and metal elements draw from the look and feel of fractured ice.

And finally, the event hall design elements incorporate layered materials and natural textures inspired by Kalamazoo’s agricultural roots and legacy of growth.

As construction continues, more of the architectural vision is beginning to take shape, creating a venue that feels distinctly connected to Kalamazoo while establishing a bold new presence in downtown Kalamazoo.
